A week after Google released their ‘Mobile Friendly Algorithm’ many marketers are asking, “Was it as epic as we anticipated?” Many of us have determined it was not as brutal as we anticipated. The release came out April 21st, and some marketers have mentioned they have seen some changes as soon as the next day. However, these changes were nothing significant.
We took a look at a client’s site and compared the week prior to the release with the week of the release. The site saw an overall increase of mobile traffic over the week of the release. The site is mobile friendly by Google’s requirements and was prepared for the update.
Looking at the image above we can see new sessions from mobile increased 8.69% while new sessions from tablet increased 8.58% Depending on who you talk to you will hear what platforms mobilegeddon affected. Some will say it was strictly mobile while others have stated it is for both mobile and tablets. Regardless, as you can see it is quite consistent across both mobile and tablet.
SEORoundTable conducted a poll and asked marketers what kind of results they have seen since the release. The following image shows how people voted.
Do you have a site that is not mobile friendly? Can you share some insight on how the release has affected your site? Please share your experiences with us.
