We know mobile is the way of the future, yet many companies refuse to adopt with the changes. Sure businesses have made their sites mobile friendly, but a successful mobile e-commerce site needs more. These simple steps can help websites increase mobile conversions, resulting in an increase in revenue.
Simplify the checkout process
Once users make the decision to purchase an item on a site it’s important to get them through the checkout process quickly and efficiently. By limiting the number of clicks and pages a user must go through can result in faster order placement. This also limits where users can hit roadblocks or even worse, reconsider their purchase. It can be helpful to add a checkout status bar which will let users know how far along they are. Also, forcing users to sign up with the site can result in consumers leaving and looking for the item elsewhere.
Limit distractions
Limiting distractions doesn’t just relate to the checkout process, it also is extremely important when a user comes to your landing page. The ultimate goal is to get them to convert, which means limiting how they can leave the page, or worse, the site. Remove navigation, limit sidebars, and take out unnecessary images.
Setup A/B testing
This simple idea can highly influence the amount of conversions a page receives. Unfortunately, many websites don’t take the time to set up A/B testing. The idea is to build two pages, yet have them set up a bit different and see which one converts better. There are multiple parts of the page that can be changed that will influence the consumer, some include,
- Call to action button location.
- Button size and color.
- Page navigation.
- Different content, video or images.
- Headlines
Review your analytics to see which layout has the best results. Then try it again with a completely redesigned page.
Allow users to continue shopping on other devices
Currently many users will research items or services on their mobile devices then make a purchase on their desktop. Target these users by giving them the option to continue shopping on another devices. There’s a few ways to do this.
- Have the option for users to login to an account. Here they can create a wishlist or continue shopping where they left off. This also gives them the chance to save their cart, allowing them to come back to it at another time.
- Email their list or cart to themselves. This also allows them to email it to friends or family, allowing others to complete the purchase for them.
